It’s all in the name

Our name, 'Sapro-Tech', combines our two passions - fungi and biotechnology.

'Sapro' is a nod to our fungal collaborators. We work with saprophytic fungi - the kind that you might see growing in your garden or in the forest. Saprophytes breakdown non-living organic matter and have important roles in nutrient recycling in the environment.

'Tech' refers to our focus on biotechnology and using cutting-edge science to harness the power of nature.

By combining the two, we are making sustainable textiles from fungal mycelia at Sapro-Tech
